As another Wednesday rolls around we are ready with another wrap of the best social and influencer marketing updates.
Instagram? Nah, how about The Dots!
Instagram, Facebook and Twitter have been the OG platforms when it comes to social media but they have had to compete to stay on top. However, there are some new kids on the block and they might be the way to go when it comes to improving your marketing strategy.
If you haven’t heard of Clubhouse, you must be living under a rock or haven’t been invited… yep, we are serious. Clubhouse is an exclusive platform, that is solely audio based to allow users to pick up the phone and direct listen to industry experts including Elon Musk and Lindsay Lohan. In the recent months it has boomed and has now accumulated a waitlist of users patiently waiting to join. Businesses are setting up exclusive rooms with their clients, to give them inside scoop and the logistics of the business.
Sit back, have a cup of caffeine and host a live broadcast. Caffeine is a new live video website than was established in 2016 and is now on the rise. Whilst it competes against other live streaming platforms, like Facebook and Instagram, this platform is simply dedicated to streaming. Caffeine is accessible, allowing businesses to spread news and offers in order to gain followers.
If you didn’t join a Houseparty in 2020, you didn’t make the most of 2020 (what little there was). Houseparty is a live and fluid video chat platform, that allows users to join as they please to any ‘house’ that is live. In terms of a business use, it enables users to show others what products or services are available through live questions and answers, allowing interactions with clients.
4. The Dots
Let’s connect the dots and create a virtual professional networking platform. The best way to describe ‘The Dots‘, is a virtual office space. This platform has been designed for businesses to interact, collaborate and spread the word on your businesses latest successes and projects. Similar to LinkedIn, The Dots focuses on establishing a one stop shop for all things business; find your ideal clients, post a job listing and connect with others in your industry.
One is boring, two is cute, three’s a crowd, but four is a party: Instagram Live Rooms
Instagram has launched a brand new feature, “Live Rooms“, allowing users to go live with up to four users. The feature evolved after much request and a 70% increase in joint-live streams in 2020, as a lot of Instagram users used live streams to do Q&A’s, performances, workouts and cooking tutorials. Instagram hopes that the addition of live rooms will prompt more creative opportunities, as they strive to bring back the originality and creative aspects of Instagram. Not only will this increase interactive methods of users, it will also help creators make more money. During the peak of the pandemic in 2020, Instagram introduced badges, a measure that enabled fans to support their favourite creators during a live stream. The badges enabled fans to stand out in the comments, at the ripe price of $0.99, $1.99 or $4.99. The more you spent, the more likely you were to be noticed.
Snapchat launches a new wheelchair animation for Bitmoji characters
Snapchat has made an incredible progressive move, after the launch of their new wheelchair animation for Bitmoji characters. The social media app is striving to maximise inclusion, in order to “reflect and represent the diversity of our community.” Whilst this is a great step forward, Snapchat recognises they have more work to do in reaching their “goal of making inclusivity a fundamental part” of their “Bitmoji avatar platform.”

Gather round kids, tonight on TV we are watching TikTok
We are all guilty of watching TV and scrolling through TikTok at the same time. Well how about watching TikTok on your TV? TikTok has made a deal with Samsung, which will enabled Samsung Smart TV owners in Europe and the US to watch TikTok clips on their TV’s. The platform will give you access to your For You page and Following feeds, along with 12 categories based on the TikTok. Who needs Netflix now!? This could also open new doors for advertising for businesses on TikTok. It’s safe to say, TikTok has truly capitalised on their popularity.
Twitter introduces a new eCommerce feature
Social media won’t stop at anything, as platforms continue to implement every engaging element to its platform. The eCommerce boom of shopping on social media has been an addition to many social platforms, like Instagram, Facebook and TikTok; and now Twitter is jumping onboard. Twitter is in the process of creating and testing numerous new eCommerce features, including the measure of shopping. Whilst Twitter are still in the early stages of development, these features intend to open up new opportunities for users. Twitter is all about expressing interest and interacting with like minded people and businesses. So how dreamy would it be if you were scrolling and stumbled across a new product from your favourite brand – it could be your with only a few clicks!
Online trolls are the pigeons of Twitter
Twitter is making moves as it aims to eliminate the flock of birds causing negative conflict online. In a recent Analyst Day, Twitter outlined its work on a new anti-troll feature, called ‘Safety Mode’. This measure will alert users who are receiving negative attention on their tweets. The notification will then take the user to the ‘Safety Mode’ control panel, which will then allow you to activate ‘auto-block and mute’. By activating this mode, Twitter will stop any accounts sending abusive or rude comments from engaging with you for a week. By establishing a ground for anti-online bullying, Twitter is already ahead of the game, as no other app has established a measure like this. The issue of online bullying has escalated over the years, which is why its paramount that platforms begin implementing these measures to put online trolls in the trash. At Komodo we have a zero tolerance for online bullying and harassment. In an industry that is predominately based around social media, we have seen first hand the implications such behaviour can cause on individuals; it is inexcusable.
