Here are Komodo’s top 6 reasons why Phuket should be on your bucket list, including all the things you can’t afford to miss when visiting the island.
1. The tropical climate
Phuket is pleasantly warm throughout the year with average temperatures of 22⁰C-34⁰C. Phuket has its high season from November to February which brings the best weather and the biggest crowds. The days are mostly sunny and dry – ideal if you’re planning to spend lots of time on the beach!
2. The incredible beaches and surrounding islands
Phuket is among the world’s finest beach destinations, where beach lovers will truly be in their element. With over 30 beaches on the island, the sun, sea and sand are incredibly easy to find.
Located on the west coast of Phuket, Patong Beach is famed for its water sport adventures including jet skis, banana boats and parasailing, while Surin Beach and Freedom Beach are excellent spots for sunbathing on fine white sands surrounded by crystal clear waters.
You can also take an exhilarating speedboat trip to the hundreds of nearby tropical islands surrounding Phuket, including the famous Koh Phi Phi, where you can see where the famous DiCaprio movie ‘The Beach’ was filmed.
3. The unrivalled nightlife
When the sun goes down, the party doesn’t stop in Phuket. The eclectic night scene caters to all tastes, including cocktail bars with stunning views, chilled-out beach bars, cabaret shows and Muay Thai matches if you fancy something a bit different.
A must-visit for sundowners in Phuket is the standout Sri Panwa resort, which boasts the most dramatic setting in the Andaman Sea. Baba Nest, its unique hill-top bar, is one of the world’s most stylish and exclusive rooftops, with a glamorous deck surrounded by a wrap-around infinity pool and panoramic views of the Andaman Sea and surrounding islands. With a wide array of high-end cocktails and chilled-out sunset sessions from the resident DJ, this spot in paradise is definitely one to add to your bucket list.
However, if you’re looking for a nightlife location like no other, then head to the infamous neon-lit Bangla Road in Patong. If you’re looking for some of the best things to do in Phuket, there’s an extensive variety of adventures that you can embark on on both land and sea, such as snorkeling the turquoise waters or renting a bike.
Visiting the island’s Elephant Sanctuary is incredibly popular amongst tourists and the most ethical way to see the elephants up close, experience hands-on feeding and cleaning, and even swim with them. Monkey Hill is also a must-visit – a free spot for tourists and one of the top attractions for monkey spotting.
6. The incredible culture
Soak up some culture at the island’s most popular attractions, including the Big Buddha, Phuket Old Town and The Wat Chalong. These are just a few of the cultural highlights not to be missed in Phuket, where you can also enjoy the beautiful buildings and grounds that surround them.
